Hummingbird
Joyful messengers who represent peace, affection, and good fortune. The Hummingbird is a living rainbow that captures the sunlight and turns it into a jewel on its wings, signifying love, beauty and healing. This tiny bird is also called "Sah Sen" and is considered good luck, especially if seen before a major event.
George Matilpi
George Matilpi was born in Alert Bay, B.C., and is a member of the Kwakwa̱ka̱ʼwakw and Dakelh Nation. He began carving at the young age of 14, coming from a large family of artists and carvers. He was further taught by his half-brother Lloyd Wadhams and his cousin Ned Matilpi, as well as Chief Amos Dawson.
George likes to combine the natural grain of the wood with highlights in traditional colours of red, green and black to bring life to his creations. He is currently a full time carver, creating traditional, innovative and charismatic animal plaques with personality. George also takes the time to teach the next generation of young carvers further insuring the continuation of his culture and heritage.
