Ivan Thomas is a Nuu-chah-nulth native, born in the Tseshaht in Port Alberni on Vancouver Island.
After graduating in 1992, he moved to Vancouver, where he is part of the artist community on the world-famous Granville Island. Ivan has developed his own interpretation of the magical world of animals, mythical creatures and beautiful forms of the typical First Nations art. Ivan studied under master carver Derek Wilson and has been influenced by Patrick Amos, Ron Hamilton, Art Thompson and Bill Reid.
With the imagination of a true artist, he works constantly at creating new methods and new ways of expressing both the traditional and the contemporary.
