Sun
The Sun represents abundance, life, healing, and warmth. Released from a box by the Raven, the Sun Chief inhabits the sky and could only be reached by climbing a chain of arrows. The Sun is often carved on totems and masks and sits atop the tallest totem pole.
Raven
The creator, transformer, and trickster. He is mischievous and playful, symbolizing truth, knowledge, and transformation. Raven demonstrates the complexity of nature, and reminds us that not everyone sees the world in the same way. While a trickster, in many myths he is an aid to the creator, acting as the messenger from the sky, clarifying truths for the people, earning him the name “keeper of secrets”. In mythology the Raven released the sun and moon into the sky and discovered mankind in a clamshell.
Artie George
Artie is great nephew of Chief Dan George of Tsleil-Waututh nation (Burrard Band) and was born in North Vancouver. Both his miniature and full sized wood carvings are original works of art, which providing a fine, esthetic collection and representation of Northwest Coast native art designs. The unique, deeply carved masks, poles, boxes and other forms express Artie’s distinctive style. His art can be found in collections around the world, such as the major aboriginal conversions in Vancouver, Glenbow museum in Calgary, Anthropology museum in UBC.
