Hummingbird

Joyful messengers who represent peace, affection, and good fortune. The Hummingbird is a living rainbow that captures the sunlight and turns it into a jewel on its wings, signifying love, beauty and healing. This tiny bird is also called "Sah Sen" and is considered good luck, especially if seen before a major event.

Sun

The Sun represents abundance, life, healing, and warmth. Released from a box by the Raven, the Sun Chief inhabits the sky and could only be reached by climbing a chain of arrows. The Sun is often carved on totems and masks and sits atop the tallest totem pole.

Raven

The creator, transformer, and trickster. He is mischievous and playful, symbolizing truth, knowledge, and transformation. Raven demonstrates the complexity of nature, and reminds us that not everyone sees the world in the same way. While a trickster, in many myths he is an aid to the creator, acting as the messenger from the sky, clarifying truths for the people, earning him the name “keeper of secrets”. In mythology the Raven released the sun and moon into the sky and discovered mankind in a clamshell.

Charles Harper

Born to the Frog Clan of Carrier Native, Charles started his professional career in 1974 and created unique Northwest Coast designs. Charles gained his inspiration from master artists Lloyd Wadhams Senior, George and Dennis Matilpi from Kwakiutl Nation. Charles developed his own unique style expressing his integrity, strength of character and gentle spirit. He is widely known for his design works in platinum, gold, white gold and silver jewelry. Charles also carves totem poles and wooden sculptures. Two of Charles' poles stand in front of Stoney Creek Band Longhouse.
