Frog
A symbol of prosperity, wealth, and good luck. In Tsimshian culture, the Frog is known as the communicator between Earth and mankind. Their song carries divine power and magic; it represents Spring and the abundance to come. The Haida carved frogs on their house posts to keep them from falling over. When the frog is shown sticking out its tongue and touching another creature, it portrays the sharing of knowledge and power.
Eric Parnell
Born in 1961, Eric Parnell has been active as an artist since 2002. His cultural background is of the Haida Nation, on Haida Gwaii while his family is of the Eagle clan. He has worked at many jobs over his life, but making simple sketches (“doodling”, as he calls it) was always a pleasure for him. His partner, also very artistic, began to notice his talent and encouraged him to devote more time to his drawings and to show them to the public. He took her advice and began to apply his art designs on jewellery, clothes and other forms. Eric studied the traditional Haida art form in books. Referencing them as silent teachers. Creating distinctive graphics Haida art form, within. Nature in life, and established artists before Eric, are his major influences.
