Salmon
The symbol of immortality and wealth, dependability and renewal. The Salmon is the life source, and is always treated with high regard and respect. Many First Nations cultures tell of the Salmon people living in the ocean, who offer their bodies as food to the human world and once their flesh is used they return home to put on new flesh and begin the cycle once again. Their stories teach to honour and respect what is given and to never be too greedy.
Garner Moody
Born to the Raven Clan of Haida. Garner Moody began carving at the age of 15. Apprenticed to Bill Reid he acquired design and painting skills and was later asked to work with the master of the Canoe project. As one the new generation of artists, Garner Moody continues to express Haida traditions to produce poles, masks and argillite carvings, and a great variety of gold and silver. The beautiful design and detailed craftsmanship of his art piece is the true expression of Haida art.
