Doug LaFortune Jr.

Doug LaFortune Jr. is from the Coast Salish.
Doug LaFortune Jr. who also goes by Doug Horne to honor his mothers family, was born in 1982 in Victoria B.C. He began carving in 1997 under his father Doug LaFortune Sr. a well known carver of totem poles and other wood sculptures, and Perry LaFortune as well as his uncle Francis Horne. He developed his understanding of formlines and carving skills from an early age and has now has established himself as an independent artist. Doug is known for his totem poles, done in local trees of red and yellow cedar.
He has developed his own unique personal style incorporating more contemporary artwork and colours while maintaining his traditional heritage in design. Although his work is dominantly in wood, he has also developed graphic designs for other medias including household goods and clothing. Now his art is sought after and clearly recognizable for its clean lines, and elegant expressions.
