He acts as guide, and timekeeper, giving good luck and abundance to the people. The moon is often seen in a Ravens mouth which depicts a creation myth where the Raven releases the sun, moon, and stars into the sky. An eclipse is said to be a Codfish trying to swallow the moon.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eDarcy Basil\u003c\/h3\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eAt the age of 9 he moved to Alert Bay where he learnt traditional Kwagiulth design and fundamentals at the Namgis Band School. Next door to the school was the community carving shop where he learned basic carving skills from Beau Dick and Wayne Alfred and watched these master carvers create amazing works. D’Arcy then moved to Victoria where he met Carey Newman and observed Carey create many beautiful works using metal, stone, wood, and printmaking. The decision to pursue carving as a profession began in 2011 when he met master carver Chris Sparrow and his late father Irvin Sparrow in Musqueam.
